UX/UI Design Mobile App Concept
OBJECTIVE: To learn ideation, development, mapping, testing, envisioning, wireframing, UI design and digital protoyping.
BACKGROUND: This project was inspired by the artwork of a local watercolor artist. I used her artwork and artistic style to create a mobile app that allowed users to create their own brunch like a game and find brunch restaurants near by.
PROCESS: First, I did research on what apps were available that located the best brunch restaurants in the area. I wanted my app to be different and fun while accentuating the artwork that would be used in the app. I determined the hierarchy of function, did research on the content and competition, determined audience and rationale, goals and outcomes, naming, mapping, and testing. I created a non-visual paper prototype and tested it on several people. I discovered a lot from that process and really enjoyed watching others go through the test and discovering areas to improve.
WIREFRAMING: I then created rough digital wireframes using software I am very familiar with, Adobe InDesign. Wireframing allowed me to step-back from design and focus on a logical experience. I wanted to create navigational steps that will then lead to thoughtful and user-centered design. This was my first time wireframing and I found the consideration of how, where, why the user would go from one interaction to the next was very satisfying!
REFINEMENT: I then moved into the refinement of the UI screens. I began work in Adobe XD in conjunction with Adobe Illustrator to design the artwork shown here.
OBJECTIVE: With the 1558 Brand Agency team, I designed a new website for a non-profit group that builds bridges between community leaders and students. The group makes a positive impact on students and the community.
PROCESS: With a few weeks to complete the site, we worked with the client to determine the best needs for the organization while following existing brand guidelines. I created a site while referring to inspirational sites provided by the client, photos of actual student participants, and after several productive meetings with feedback to ensure the client was getting a solid site, I created a dynamic site that mirrored the spirit and energy of the organization. I also provide the client with concept hero images to assist them with capturing photography for the website.
OBJECTIVE: Design a new website for Clayton Youth Enrichment, he largest child care provider in Fort Worth, Texas.
PROCESS: This was a large web project that went through several concepts and tweaks. I created wireframes and UI in Adobe XD, I worked closely with 1558 Brand Agency project manager, CEO, copywriters, and web developers to complete this 28+ page website.
UX/UI Design Project: Creating the visual elements of a mobile app.
OBJECTIVE: To learn interface conventions, setting the look and feel of a project, designing interface elements, sketching an interface during a course in Visual Elements of UI Design from the California Institute of the Arts.
BACKGROUND: Inspired by my love of music and a previous art project where I transposed my sleeping brainwaves into music. This is a heart rate monitor/mobile app that turns your heart rate into a musical soundtrack. For anxious individuals who wish to monitor levels of stress and reduce anxiety from daily hassles and major events, you can record the electrical signals from your body, and the app provides immediate feedback, turning your body’s data into music. Process This image below shows the pre-design stage where I created a mood board for the app. This represents a broad picture of what the app might feel and look like after considering who the app is for.
ELEMENTS: Final UI design, mood board, icons and symbols created using Adobe Illustrator.
OBJECTIVE: To develop the UI design for chamber website with a quick turnaround.
BACKGROUND: The Waxahachie Chamber is a business chamber in Waxahachie and Ellis county, Texas. They are one of the larger chambers, based on number of members, in the area. They help their members:
• Gain credibility within their business community
• Market/promote their businesses• Participate in educational opportunities relevant to business owners
• Access their referral directory and city relates events/info
PROCESS: This was a quick turnaround project. The project manager provided me a client questionnaire and site map. After initial rough sketches with paper and pencil, then feedback from the team, I created a few pages of this site using Adobe D. I work with the 1558 Brand Agency team to polish up the final site.
CLIENT: MCA Denver
PROJECT: A collaboration project with the University of Denver. The Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, Colorado wanted to incorporate a digital handheld device that allowed visitors to have an engaging interactive experience at the museum. The device was created to provide information about artwork, events, artists, and the library with video, audio, games, and more. Collaborating artists worked closely with MCA staff and designers to create a device that reflected MCA's branding and was easy to navigate by a variety of users.
Collaborators: Laleh Mehran, Christopher Coleman, Mark Lopez, Claire Bow, Daniel McGlynn, Amy Jones, Benjamin Zenner, Ross Branthover, Sarah Soriano, Kevin Moloney, Leo Kacenjar, Andrew Baldwin
